and if you read the small print you will see that they only have "options
on"

which if the airline industry is anything to go by, might turn out to be far
fewer actual sales

Where does it say that?

Other newspapers are available.

They are also only the mechanical platform, with Uber providing the
"yet-to-be-built self-driving system".

And they aren't planned to be fully-autonomous, because each will still
have a human driver.

On BBC teletext service (what do that call that now?)

it says "up to"

It also said yesterday that Uber would buy the first 1000 for "cash" but not
buy the rest until a funding package had been put in place to finance them.
But that item seems to have gone now.

That requires someone else to believe in the Uber "Vision". Which, as
Roland has added, the cars will use Uber's driverless technology and
elsewhere you will read that Uber is not leader of the pack here:

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/apr/04/uber-google-waymo-self-driving-cars

So this not going to be a given.

Why would someone put billions of pounds/dollars on the table to finance
cars with Uber driverless technology in when an alternative provider of
driverless cars is more robust?

Uber may have the lead here in their taxi booking app, but replicating that
is childs play compared with getting the driverless car technology right.

Uber are good at hype

I'm not convinced that they are up to the delivery
